Have a variable speed pump motor with 3 settings. Doe it make any sense to have different settings for whatever I want the maximum, minimum, standard RPMs to be? If so, when would I set each? meaning would I want the maximum to be when the pump first comes on, or later, etc. OR: does it make sense to make all 3 settings the same? What might be most cost effective? The pool does have a heat pump type heater in use.

You have a SWCG, so your normal pump rate should be set to be sure your SWCG is generating chlorine. Reduce the rpm on the pump until your SWCG flow light goes off (or red). Then add 100 rpm to that setting and be sure your flow light is on. That would be your normal flow rate.
At that rate, see if you heat pump works. If not, then increase the rpm until the pressure switch closes at it works, use that as a setting for when you want your heat pump to work.
If you have a pool powered cleaner you will need a level of rpm for that. If not, see if the normal rpm provides sufficient skimming. If it does not, set a schedule each day to run at a higher rpm for as long as you want to skim.

If you have no cleaners or solar or water features that require a high rpm then one setting that keeps the flow switch in your SWG and pressure switch in your HP happy may be all you need.

Thank you very much! Your comments make sense & were very helpful. Much appreciated!!
