How in the world does someone shoot their hand with the nail gun??????? I thought they had to be pressed down on the board so the safety is off before it will shoot! OUCH! Did he have to go get a tetanus shot? I hope it missed the bones and there is no lasting damage.

So Rodney just happened to be luck of the draw. Sure saved a lot time and work that he was able to get back there. "don't let the truck tip" :shock: that one would have worried me for sure!!

I realize that you are bound by the Hippocratic oath and a general sense of goodness to save these folks but sometimes Darwin really needs to be allowed to do his work...some genes just need to be kept out of the human pool ... :brickwall:

Oh no, I’m totally all for your Wanger. He’s certainly proven his ability to “go the distance”...

People that point nail guns at themselves and pull the trigger....nope, those folks just need to be left to Mother Nature for sorting out....
 
Well, like they say, stuff happens. I was framing a wall once (wall laying on a slab) and nailed my hand to the bottom plate when the stud I was holding got accidentally kicked. Thankfully missed the bones. It was painful but hilarious when the crew started discussing/arguing/threatening what vehicle would fit me and my attached 2x6 for a run to emergency. I think roof rack came up. I got called Stick Man for the rest of that project, and near every time I reached for a nail gun, someone would pull the air hose to slide it a couple feet away :) One of the better lines was: "Hey Stick Man, grab six more studs, but not permanently."

I hope Wanger is doing well :) Your project is looking great!

Ohhhh.. you mean... like the the dude that tried to off his'elf by using a 14' rope when the joist was only 10' from the floor? True story. <insert face palm eye roll>

So I got the fireplace foundation ready for an inspection but the thing has been bugging me ever since. The way the engineer has this thing called out on the plans would mean that the hearth would finish out at 27.5" :uhh:.

So here is my solution:

I put my Wanger to work... So here's how I'll leave it and I'll see if I can get the inspector to "overlook" the engineered design. Hopefully it doesn't create an issue but you never know. He's been pretty picky up to this point.

Once that nightmare was over our attention was turned to the patio roof. The tile is getting delivered on Wednesday so Wanger and I laid out the underlayment and set the wall flashing.

I got all the lines snapped out so we should be good to go once the tile arrives.

Lath and the lid should get hung this week and the pergola/fireplace lumber delivery is supposed to show up middle of next week.

After all these years I finally get to see your mug-shot (you always had a ball cap and sun glasses on). The sketch artists do a surprisingly good job on all those posters I see of you in the Post Office....I have to say, with the mystique gone, I’m left feeling a little disappointed ...

Yeah, that fire place is ENORMOUS! It’ll take half a cord of wood just to get her heated up. You should’ve run a heat exchanger loop into the pool plumbing to capture the waste heat.

That is an awesome backyard....makes my little garage work bench project look ... sad. I really need my own Wanger :sad:

I’ve seen your Wanger, he’s going to need one of those really BIG amazon boxes :scratch: maybe you can send him with the flame thrower.

How do you attache the tiles to the roof? I have always wanted to know!

They are going to lose a kid in that firebox! Go big or go home! They are going to want to keep Wanger just for firewood cutting duties!

I'd like the hearth no higher than 16" so it's a reasonable sitting height.

The roof tiles have nail holes in them that allow a roofing nail to secure them to the sheathing. The underlayment is "self healing" to seal up the nail penetrations.

There will be a handful of tiles in each pallet that show up broken and a few more that break during the install. The cuts create a ton of waste, especially on hip roofs like this one. There will be quite the pile of waste once the roof is complete.

Hopefully Wanger doesn't find himself in the pile!
