So as you all pointed out, I needed a better testing method. So my new Taylor kit came today and so I compared the results against my test strips to find the differences.
My chlorine is high because I shocked the pool about 32 hours ago. Same water sample for both testing methods.

You can get a top notch one from Hayward for $1800 or a real good one from CircuPool for $1100-1300. They don't break if you keep your water balanced and the CSI where it belongs. That prevents you from having to clean the salt cell. I have gotten 4-5 years from my T-15 cells and I now know my CH is the reason I was getting build up on my plates. I will definitely treat my RJ45 better.

I have to wait to get my new Circupool RJ 45+ installed now that I see how high my CH is, but that will have to wait until I can afford the price of water in the fall so I can drain 1/2 - 2/3 of my pool.
Mine was $100 in water to fill mine from empty. How much liquid chlorine do you go through during these summer months?

I am using about 3 gals a week right now. I put an extra 1/2 gal in last night before the dust storm hit - which then just sat over us as the wind went totally dead.

I’m in Surprise so we didn’t get hit. I was hoping to see my first “dust wall” as this is my first summer in this state. Looks awesome!
3 gallons a week! I see why they make these awful tablets now. They are much much cheaper.

Oh, just wait. Did you get to watch the lightning show from the one that hit Sun City Festival north of you? While I was watching the motionless dust I could see a ton of flashes from that storm as it moved west across the north valley. I'm in Glendale and we only got spit on. I miss the old days before our heat island started pushing storms around the valley. We used to have some real doozies. And even when the storms didn't make it in we had the lightning to watch from a distance. Some of it is heat lightning from dry storms that don't rain but cause brush fires. Nice to see another West Valleyite. What brings you here and from where? The weather here is probably quite a shock to you.

The lightning show was incredible! Watched for hours! Never seen such a weird display. Like many, I came from Tacoma, Washington. Moved here in September. The homeless population and bad politics drove me here.

I find that a SWCG has 2 main advantages which I found when I switched from LC to a SWCG.
First, you are prepaying for your LC, so you are locking in the cost of chlorine for the next 4-7 years (depending on how you use it).
Second, it is much easier to travel knowing that your chlorine level will be consistent. I just traveled for 12 days and level was perfect upon return.
