Something odd I noticed this year vs. my previous 5 years. I'm adding less salt to my pool.?

My logs show I've added 220 lb this year, 280 last year and 320 the year before. Throwing out the 280 last year due to a leak getting it repaired, if I look at 220 vs 320, that's a considerable reduction. Only difference this year vs. all my other years is I'm purposely running my FC near 10 where in the years past I was running it in the 3-4 ppm range. I'm still adding about 100 to 200 gallons of well water a week depending on how windy it gets here and that historically is the case. My numbers in Pool Math seem OK when I enter them and then I make the necessary corrections. Precip for the years is about the same on average as well but I seem to be backflushing the system less this year too.

The water is clearer and easier to maintain at 10 vs. 3 based on my feel for it. Am I just thinking its better, or, at the chemical level, is there something happening which is making salt usage lower?

There is no connection between FC level and salt loss.

FC of 3 would be at the low end for CYA 60. You have discovered why many of us run hot a few ppm above recommended levels and never close to the minimum.
