Raypak Heater - HL2 Error Code

I have an almost new (installed 2021) Raypak above ground heater. I only use it sparingly to get temp up that extra few degrees when having company. I had Leslie's out for diagnostics and they said everything looked great until it shut down (HL2 error) while they were there testing the unit. After the tech searched for potential issues, they said I should try to remedy by replacing the unitherm governor first and if that does not fix the issue, then replace the temperature sensor. They did not perform any additional tests, but wanted to see if this made sense prior to taking these extra steps. Thanks for any advice folks have for me.

Welcome to TFP.

Things you can try...

  • replace both high limit sensors and add thermal paste
  • replace unitherm governor
  • replace internal bypass
  • add a heat shield
Some folks have added a heat shield above the HLS sensors. This thread describes how the high limit fault was fixed by insulating the header around the sensors.

I usually start with the cheapest and easiest first.

Depends what you can do versus what you pay Leslie to do.

What model number heater are we discussing?
