Raised spa draining to pool

Hi I have a pool that is draining from the raised spa to the pool when equipment is off. The pool has no check valves.

I already replaced the suction side Pentair diverter valve. What else could it be?

There is a return valve and a vacuum/skimmer suction side diverter valve that I have not touched.

Thanks

G,

If you have a raised spa and no check valve that is exactly what it will do. Something to do with a new thing called gravity.

You might also have a Hartford loop, a big plumbing loop that does not look like it has any function, but it acts as a check valve in a way.

Show us some pics from five feet backwards. We need to understand how everything connects together.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi thanks for your response.

No Hartford loop and I have several pools with a raised spa with no check valves only diverter valves so it is not uncommon.

G,

I'm assuming the raised spa spills over into the pool when the system is in the Pool mode. If that is true, without a check valve, the spa will drain down to just below the spa returns/jets when the pump is turned off.

Unless someone manually shuts off the spa return line, or there is a check valve in the line. Or an anti-gravity device is being used.

Let's see what our other members have to say..

Thanks,

Jim R.

I can’t get into whether there’s a way to prevent draining without a check valve, as my raised spa has said valve. When it went bad, spa drained exactly as Jim described above. Replacing the check valve fixed my problem. Good luck!
