Question regarding enlarging inlet / outlet port size

We have a 20' x 48" round pool and are in the process of upgrading the filter pump system. (The filter pump that came with the pool failed after a couple of weeks.) We are awaiting the arrival of a Hayward W3CC15093S XStream Above-Ground Pool Filter Pump System, 1.5 HP. It may be oversized for our pool but, given the high demand for pool supplies right now, it's what we had to settle for.

We are prepping for the new filter pump and, despite hours of searching, I cannot seem to find any advice on whether or not the inlet/outlet ports on the pool wall should be enlarged from the 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" for better water flow. Would the water flow be detrimentally restricted and harm the pump if we did not enlarge the ports? Thank you for any guidance you can provide on this.

Hey TM! I don’t think there would be a problem with flow/pressure - its the terrible dinky stock hoses/connectors that are usually the issue. They are non standard thread sizes so they don’t like to mate up well with other equipment. An easy quick upgrade would be a regular above ground pool return & standard pool hoses which happen to be 1 1/2”. Then you’d just need an adapter for your inlet.
There are lots of folks here who have upgraded that style pool with better equipment. Do a search here & get a few ideas for how u wanna set your plumbing up. Most take that opportunity to also add some valves for maintenance purposes.
