Question on PH and TA

I just purchased the Taylor 2006. This is all new to me. I am a little confused on the PH and TA. Below are my results. I am not sure if i should bring up my PH first or work on lowering TA

FC - 1 I believe I need to add some bleach
PH - 7.0
TA - 160 - I just purchased some muratic acid
CH - 270
CY Acid - 30

We have a pump in the pool right now with a hose to aerate the pool but not sure if its enough. I am afraid the muratic acid will really reduce the the PH down too much.

Not sure if my info comes across - Intex 18x48 above ground salt water pool, sand filter.

Thank you!!

How is your water looking?

You definitely need bleach. Shoot for 4-6 FC with your CYA. If you don’t have to SLAM, you might want to bump CYA a bit.

Where is Bayport?

I think with TA that high, your PH is going to increase on its own. You can aerate or let the kids splash around to raise it, then when it gets to 7.8, use muriatic acid to lower it to 7.2. This will also lower TA.

You can repeat that process until pH does not rise as much. For example my pH pretty much sticks at 7.5 without me doing anything, and my TA rides around 80.

Do you have salt in the pool yet? And are you using the Taylor K-1766 kit to test your salt?

If you don’t have to slam, you want to raise CYA to about 70. Use bleach to get yourself to the target FC for that CYA, and then let your salt water generator take over. Your goal is to run it long enough to keep your FC at the target. For example I use my salt water generator for about three hours a day, and as it starts to get super hot and I use the pool more I will probably need to run it for about four hours a day.
