Purifiber Replacement Suggestions

Was using Purifiber for at least 10 years. Purchased a huge quantity about 5 years ago and have 1 more bag remaining. looked to order more and its nowhere to be found.

DE gets airborne easily when pouring into the skimmer. Now looking for cellulose based coating. Suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance!

I buy my DE in 6 lb bags. I poke a hole in the bag holding it over the skimmer and pur it right in. There is no opportunity for it to get airborne.

I think DE is preferable to cellulose substitutes.

I've used fiberclear and some other brand of cellulose whose name I can't recall for a few years now.

No complaints with the filtering ability. When it does start to raise pressure, it goes up FAST. I think it starts to biodegrade and gets sticky. It doesn't backwash well, but since it's only once or twice a year, it's no big deal for me to open it and hit the grids with the hose.

Agreed on the backwash. Purifiber 36 oz bag was the perfect size for the Hayward DE6020 filter. Fiberclear site doesn't provide any info on amounts. I sent them an email asking.

Interesting. When I used DE all pouring methods made it airborne. I guess that a 6 lb bag is the amount for 1 coating for your filter. I recall needing to measure from a 20 lb bag.

Something to consider.
