If my total required feet of head calculation comes out that I need an exactly one horse power pump would a variable speed pump be useful in my case?

How did you come with the "total required feet of head"? At what flow rate?
I used INYO pools method. And it comes out to be almost exactly one horse power. I have about 67 gallons per minute and 40 feet of head. So it comes out to be about 1 HP.

It doesn't appear that you have any water features so you can go with a small pump. But long term, you might benefit from a VS or two speed pump.
