Pump hot, not running

8 years is a pretty good run for a motor. It might have just seized-up. But you could always try to replace that capacitor on top. Remove the back cover to the motor to see if there's another cap back there as well (run & start caps). They are relatively inexpensive, so you could try that before changing the motor.

Thank you for your reply. Caps are purchased where? The cover was extremely hot too.

Caps are purchased where?
Just about any pool store online. If you do some Google searches for your current motor model number and search for that motor parts breakdown, it should give you the capacitor part numbers. Once you have those, you can often times just get them off of Amazon.

How long can you leave a pool without circulating it?
This time of year, not long. Do you have any type of portable sump or submersible pump you can drop in there? If not, I would slowly increase the FC level close to SLAM level and brush it around at least twice a day.

The Polaris is not really designed to run without the main pump feeding it water.

It's not a self-priming pump.

It will end up pulling in water from the returns.

If you block the returns and the pump is primed, it might work ok, but it's probably best to leave it off.

If you add liquid chlorine and brush, that would likely be enough.
