Problem getting hose nut to thread onto new hose

We bought a new hose for our Polaris 380 which has new everything--floats, backup valve, external filter. We cut the leader hose to match the maximum depth of the pool as per the directions. We tried to screw the hose nut back on after attaching the hose end and the hose nut would not screw in over the bumped out area at the joint. The hose nut would go around and around but not move forward to secure the hose in place. We turned the hose nut so much the hose nut threads actually cut through the hose. Any suggestions for an easy process to screw on a hose nut? The Youtube videos make it look so simple!

Slide the nut onto the hose so the nut faces down towards the end of the hose.

Slide the hose over the nipple on the Polaris.

Then slide the nut down and tighten it over the hose on the nipple.

Post pics of what you are trying to do if it does not work for you.
