Priming pump and backwashing?

In-ground pool, with what I believe is a Pentair FNSP 48 DE filter. We recently had heavy rain and since then the water has been cloudy in the deep end. Have had water testing done a few times and have been told levels looked good. Suggestion was to backwash, which I haven't needed to do this summer.

I'm not planning to manually clean the filter parts at this point. Assuming that, when I backwash, will I still need to prime the pump at some point? Some step by step guides don't mention priming and others do.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to TFP!!!

First, we recommend, and only provide advice when you have your own test kit. Here are the recommended kits...Link-->Test Kits Compared

When you backwash, you need to recharge the filter with 80% of the "cleaned" volume of DE. That would be 4lbs for your filter. After backwash, run the pump and prime the pump. Then add the DE.

I'd add 3ppm of liquid chlorine until your kit arrives.

When your kit arrives, I'd perform the SLAM process to clear the pool. Link-->SLAM Process
