PoolSkim

rm,

Put "PoolSkim" in the search box in the upper right of this screen and you will get a ton of hits...

My impression is that it gives the appearance of skimming better, but the reality is that the actual skimming action does not increase at all...

But, I suggest you read some of the posts for yourself,

Jim R.

Jim, this is not a device that goes in the skimmer intake ......
The "PoolSkim" is a skimming device that screws into one of the pool returns and catches debris via vortex effect into a mesh bag that can be emptied.

I have been using a "PoolSkim" device for several years now, it works as advertised . I have messy pine and cedar trees around our pool, and we are on top of a mountain (10 mile view on both sides), so we get a LOT of wind ...... ALL the time. Everything blowing around, makes its way into our pool !
The "PoolSkim" has been a very effective way to keep all the debris from floating around the surface of our pool . Love it ! Uses NO auxiliary power source, just the pressure from one of your pool returns. Simply unscrew an "eyeball" and install the Pool skim . Easy.

Ever see one of those "black holes" on the water in reservoirs ?? Same effect .........Oh even better , how about the scene in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean where the black Pearl is battling with the Flying dutchman around the black hole (maelstrom) .

Same thing ! lol. Well kind of ......not that turbulent though ! :p

The pool skim just collects all the junk in a bag so you can empty it once in a while.

I love ours ! One of the best $100. we spent on our pool to keep it clean !

I have also used a Poolskim and I loved it! I had an issue with the neighbor's crepe myrtle dropping blooms in my pool all summer. There would be a heavy pink layer that would clog my skimmer basket if the pump was left running unattended. The Poolskim would draw most of them into the attached net so I didn't have to babysit the pump anymore.

Anyone have experience with these

I really like mine.

I used to have a polaris cleaner connected to a pressure side return. I bought an electric pool cleaning robot making the polaris expendable. I put the poolskim in it's place on that pressure side return. It catches lots of floating debris, is easy to bend down to grab the leaf bag, empty and replace. Much, much easier than the polaris ever was and more effective at keeping pool clean as it collects a lot of floating debris before it has a chance to sink. It also helps keep the water circulation moving so the regular skimmers work a little more effectively as the floating debris makes it around better. I was able to remove the filter that used to protect the polaris as I just need the water flow now so one less filter to clean or break.

Just rcvd my Poolskim, install was a snap. So I turned on my pmp which is a VS. Initial start up is preprogrammed at 3000 rpm called prime speed, after several mins it switches to a 2nd speed that is programmable(time /rpm) I have it set at 2000, then to the final speed setting which is normal run speed set at 1650.
So the PS starts skimming really nice at 3000rpm, I as pleased, but by the time it gets to the 1650 rpm setting skimming is non exsistant with the PS. And the little flow reducer plates dont even fit my eyeballs. THere is nothing to hold it in on the back side of the eyeball, therefore they are useless.
SO my pool layout is this....main skimmer at one end, one return at the other end and 2 other returns on the same side of the pool between the main skimmer and end return.

3rd pic is my skimmer,, 1st is PS, then the remaing eye balls. All returns r on same side. I installed 2 sloted eyeballs and pointed them towards the PS, this greatly increased circulation. The floating debris circulated around the pool. The only denris that went in the PS was stuff directly in its path. Aftet monitoring for a while, it appears that the freeform shape is causing some dead spots. I them moved PS to opposite the skimmer which helped.

Rcvd the slotted type returns. Put them in 2 closest to the main skimmer. Put the PS at the opposite end from the main skimmer. I left the pmp rpm the same. PS seems to be working a lot better. I have noticed a much greater water circulation. Both returns are pointed slightly dwn and towards the main skimmer. If i play with the surface angle of the PS i can change how the swirl of the PS. As of now will leave it this way
