pooldv florida pool thread

your new pool is really really nice! i like that cage. it's like a very upgraded version of the regular ones i usually see in florida. looks very custom. which always ends up meaning more work like you said. it is pretty cool though. but your view! i'm going to print those pics out to keep me motivated to keep working longer hours so i can retire sooner to be able to sit on the beach in my backyard and with a beach fire to boot!

But the real question is this - where did you put your smoker???? And when will the epic 3lb plates of cooked bacon be on display again?

Thanks! Yes, that view is good for the soul. If you like beaches, water, sunny blue skies and sunsets. :)

No kidding. The smoker is still in texas and that is a bit of a conundrum that we haven't solved yet. There is currently no good place for it and we're going to have to fix that. Bacon. Always yes. We've been cooking lots of fresh grouper, snapper, flounder, shrimp and crab fresh out of the gulf. There are two fresh fish markets a couple of miles from the house. Yum!

Good to see you posting pooldv! Congrats on the new setup... I have been MIA as well but going to get back in the saddle as I have missed lots of folks on here...

Yes, it is intentional. We want warmer weather, we like beaches and being close to my brother is a big plus. He's been in the air force for 20+ years and we were 3 hours away for only about 3 of those years. The rest of the time we were far apart and difficult to get together. We often vacationed together in Destin. He retired from the AF in 2017 and we're all ready to settle in and spend some time enjoying life. Like so.

I've missed those feet! The Florida humidity seems to have plumped your toes up a bit to a delicious contour. Screw the sunsets....lets see those feet!

It was 82 and sunny yesterday so we heated the pool to 90 and did some swimming. It will be sunny and upper 70s the rest of the week so we hodgepodged some leftover solar cover to keep the heat in overnight. And new Gilligan hard at work.

The first pool party of 2019 is today! :paddle:

Wow, we lost 6 degrees overnight. A little more than I expected.
Here is the data
Pool 85%ish covered by solar cover.
Pool temp yesterday 90
Hi temp yesterday 82
Lo temp last night 60
Humidity in the 90s
Wind calm
Pool temp this morning 84

We get about 2 degrees per hour from the heater with cover off.

These flowers are amazing! The blooms only last a couple of days but these opened up this morning just for the pool party.

What a view!!! Looks great. What I would give to live right on the water like that..... You are going to enjoy that I'm sure. The bar area looks great. Seems like the house is really set-up for outdoor living. Nice work!

Ok, new info on pool heat loss overnight. Last night air was 70 instead of 60 and we lost 1 degree overnight from 90 to 89. My theory is that since the day before yesterday was the first time heating the pool so the gunite and ground wasn't fully heated yet and leached some heat from the pool.

I have to say that the new and improved Maytronics S series robot cords are worse, not better. Maytronics added a swivel and float to the cord a few feet away from the robot. The swivel is too tight to untangle on its own. And the float causes even more tangling somehow and even knots sometimes. The cord tangling is much worse on my new S200 than it was on my old Doheny's Discovery (also an S200).

Mine does that too. But once it gets just so tangled, it has enough force to spin the swivel. And when I pull the unit out of the water, the cord straightens itself.
