Pool won't clear no matter what. Tired of fighting with it.

Had to go search for chlorine this morning so I went by the local pool store. I thought what the heck I'll take a sample with me and see their numbers vs mine. I asked if they sold liquid chlorine and they very abruptly said, "no, we don't sell any liquid chlorine of any kind!". They looked at me like i was evil just for asking. Anyway, I'm going to pull my steps out, take them apart, bleach them and leave them out a couple of days while i continue slamming every 2 hours. I was able to find liquid chlorine at Walmart in the next town over so I bought 15 gallons.

My numbers this morning:

FC 3.5
CC .5
PH 7.4
TA 200
CH 180
CYA 35

Pool store numbers:

FC 5
TOTAL CHLORINE 5
PH 8.3
TA 238
CH 178
CYA 28

Of course they tried to sell me ph down and some stabilizer but I said no thank you. Anyway, I will continue to slam on.

I sprayed down my ladder with bleach cleanser and scrubbed them. Rinsed off all that gunk with a pressure washer, then sprayed them down again with the bleach cleanser and sat them in the sun for a couple of days. Pressure washed them again and let them sit in the sun. Nothing like bleach and UV. Taking the assembly apart and cleaning each individual part is the key.

Mine only come apart so far it appears. I'm worried about the holes where water gets on the inside. I've drained them though. I'm going to do the same. I scrubbed them with bleach today and I'm going to let them sit out for a few days in the sun.

Some find they need to add holes to inject liquid chlorine and allow for water flow/easier cleaning in the future.
Some have had good luck with a pressure washer in the holes.
For the weights- you want to ensure they are completely sealed. Many here use old bleach jugs - capped with duct tape before putting the lid on.
Some steps suggest adding sand into them- we don’t recommend this. It becomes algae city & makes them hard to move.
Completely Sealed, separate weights are best.

Still slamming. Still adding chlorine. Still dropping pretty fast. I'm over 50 gallons of chlorine in the last 3 weeks. I have removed the stairs and weights from my pool. I'm adding over quite a bit of chlorine each time but my levels still drop quite a bit. Slam been going on for 4 weeks. What am I doing wrong? It's still not tfp clear. I'm off the next 3 days and will be sure to test and add every 2 hours.

Going over slam fc level just allows for even faster burn off of chlorine.
(The higher the fc the faster it happens)
So aim for slam fc to be the most efficient.
What type of filter do you have?

Sand filter. Pump has continuously been on over 4 weeks. I replaced sand beginning of season before slam. I've been slamming for 4 weeks

FWIW, I added DE to my sand filter following the instructions I found here. I think it’s helping my situation. Regardless, you’re fighting algae or some other organic infestation. You’ll have to get down to every last bolt, nut, screw, junction, crease, fold, etc to find and kill it. I got lucky and found my culprit quickly.

Ok thanks. I bring my chlorine levels back up to slam, but then like this morning it dropped from 16ppm to 7ppm. It's driving me crazy and requires a lot of time and chlorine. I've got the stairs and weights out of my pool. I get in it to brush and vacuum and scrub, but still losing chlorine at a rapid pace. It's frustrating when you don't know what it is and the amount of trips to go get chlorine and the amount of money I've spent so far. I'll go over everything again today. Now I know when I hear everyone say what a pain pools are and to get rid of the thing! I want to give a it a fair shot, but I don't want to be doing this every summer!

The idea is to never have to do the
SLAM Process again.
Eradicate the algae, prove its gone by passing the 3 end of slam criteria and then keep it gone by always maintaining fc above minimum for your cya. This includes closing & opening properly to ensure you always have enough fc.
