Pool opening 2024

I hope you didn't divide 4 inches into 4 ft to get 10%.
48 inches of pool divided by 4 inches of rain is 12% and close enough to fudge as 10% for the sake of the lesson and guestimating.

In reality the 2 inches of rain would dilute it 4% or 5% and not even be noticeable, providing it was mixing well.

Hey guys i think i need help badly. It rained all day yesterday and i did not put in any chlorine. It was sunny all day today and i just tested and my FC is about 1.5. YES 1.5???? Holy no good batman. I just added 1 gallon of chlorine and i put that 1 lb of pool stabilizer into the sock and tied it do that it is swaying right in front of the jet. What else do i need to do. Should i test tomorrow evening again and c what has happened. How long will it take before the CYA rises and is it ok to test for that tomorrow evening?? Let me ask u a dumb question. I know u hate thid but if my CYA needs a boost as does my chlorine what about putting ONE packet only of Green Out into my skimmer to raise the CYA and chlorine. Just one time?? Either of these just once????? Also here is a pic of that sock in the water

?? Need advice. If u saw my reply. My FC is like 2. So i added 1 gallon of bleach and put 1 lb of stabilizer in sock near jet. Whats going on with my FC. My CYA is still about 22. Hopefully this stabilizer will help. Or did u read my reply about adding that green out product just once. Please help.

Test and make sure the FC went up enough. How have the old bottles been doing ?

A short time at low FC isn't the end of the world, if it happens once. When it happens over and over again, you'll be bit before long.

Yes.

How long will it take before the CYA rises and is it ok to test for that tomorrow evening??
Squeeze the sock out now, (it should be mushy by now) or before work.

Nope, nope, and nope. They will do nothing that liquid chlorine won't do. And the green one adds ammonia. Nopety nope.

That'll do. (y)

Please help.
Sorry we were all busy. An hour earlier we were all sitting around bored. Whattayagonna do ? Lol.

No green out - it contains ammonia 🛑
Liquid chlorine!
1 gallon of 10% liquid chlorine should get you to 10.6 ppm fc .

I added about 120 oz at 645 pm and put the sock in with 1 lb of stabilizer. I just squeezed it out at 1045 pm and put a little more in sock again for good luck ??? I also added about 20 more oz of bleach also(for some leeway). Fingers crossed for the morning. I will squueze sock again before work. It is right in front of water jet and is moving quite nicely because of that. All that chlorine hopefully will correct things with a little higher CYA. When can i test the CYA again for a true result?? Tomorrow evening or Thursday morning or??? I want to get a true result for the CYA. Once CYA is good with FC good i will check pH again and TA. I did add the muriatic acid on Sunday as requested. I am really hoping that i am on my way to a beautiful pool with ur help. Fingers crossed people 😊😊😊😊😊

Holy moly guys. I just had time to test my FC. It was an astounding 16 !!!!!! I wonder what my CYA is. I was so worried last night that i added like 1/2 lb more of stabilizer at 1030 along with the extra 16 oz of bleach. I am glad the chlorine bleach is working now i am afraid to test for the CYA since i went a bit more than suggested. I will check tonight after work. 🙏

Correction. That's a WooHoo I won't be getting algae FC. ;)

It is 1000X better to goof high than to goof low. Well done there.

CYA needs a day to mix before you can trust it when using the sock method.

The small exta addition probably won't test one way or the other as the test is not exact.

But either way, if it comes back 'high' it'll be 1/3 or so what it was last year. And once it fell to 50 or 60 your pool behaved awesomely, so at worst, you're golden.

No more CYA though.

If I were to make a guess, I would guess there are several brands being stamped on the same gauge being built in one factory. You see it often on Amazon.

Last year i added a capful of clarifier and then vacuumed as directed on the bottle and that is what brought my pool to a nice blue color? What do u think??

So i lost about 3.5 ppm of chlorine today.
It burns off faster at higher levels. The loss should slow down and tomorrow be closer to normal.

I'm not a fan, but they won't cause any harm either. We are against their regular use without addressing the root of why they are being needed.

But it brings up a good point. When was the last time your filter was deep cleaned ? We recommend once a year

Also, to speed along the filtering right now, you can add (pool grade) DE to the skimmer.

I will have to read up on deep cleaning the filter. Also i read a little bit about pool grade DE. They say this substance is carcinogenic?? What is the best way to handle that item. And if i do use the DE in the skimmer is that enough for now instead of a deep cleaning of the filter?? But as for the clarifier. I only used it once last year to get the haze out and get a color change. Just once and then I vacuumed and that was it.

So is concrete dust. Don't inhale the dust from either on purpose. That's about the extent of your concerns. :)

And if i do use the DE in the skimmer is that enough for now instead of a deep cleaning of the filter??
It's 2 totally seperate things for 2 seperate reasons. Think of the deep clean like a tune up to make the car run smoother and the DE as a performance mod to make the car run faster.
But as for the clarifier. I only used it once last year to get the haze out and get a color change
It's not going to hurt.

FC is 9.5 this AM
This is concerning that you lost 3ppm from 7pm last night to mid morning on a yucky day.

Practice getting out of bed quietly without disturbing the Mrs (and being quiet once you're up) because we're likely going to need an overnight chlorone test where you have to test at dawn before the sun gets going.

It's standard operating procedure for openings but I only didn't suggest it because of the worry it caused last year before you trusted us, and 10X that worry for the wrath of the Mrs who thought your new pool friends had lost their minds. :ROFLMAO:

Have a read

Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

Do i have the proper items to do this. I have the TF 100. Can i use my R0871 reagent with my heaping tsp of powder tonight. Snd then do it again tomorrow and compare both? I think i did it last year with these items?

Yup. It's just two FC/cc tests without sunlight. If you lose FC without any UV, then somethings brewing. It appears you lost FC last night, while it appeared it had been holding well after opening. We don't like assuming either way, but there was less to suspect upon opening.

Mix the pool well before taking both samples and if you leave the pump running overnight it saves 30 mins or so of sleep in the morning. Worth every penny to PSEG IMO.
