pool liner issues

I have had heck of a time getting my pool up, oval 12x24 sharkline, over lap liner.

finally got liner in the other day, but the day turned to storms. next day, warmed up and sun. it stretched out a good had 1 foot over lap per liner manufacture recommendations.
however, there was a rather big gap between wall and line. tried to shop vac, with some improvement. started filling, with the sun shining in the 80's. gap was still there, was hoping it compress with water.
then a rail popped off and the end bent in with some buckling. I fixed that spot as we didn't have one upright secured on the top over the wall right there. I figured it caved there due to that.
but i read walls may buckle if there is a place where there is a high bottom rail , I think the rail is higher just next to where it popped and bent in/out.

after I repaired that, I put the vacuum back on and then the whole side top stabilizers popped off and more buckling( it was later afternoon 6pm , not as hot, my friend thinks I shouldn't not have vacuumed then)

. I'm devastated, there is a tear in the top of the line, now. we have Crud weather the rest of the week, then on vacation, this wont be fixed until after that, my major question is. how much over lap is actually needed. if I went 6 inches, would that be enough,

I have searched and wanted some pool people insight on it, I may be able to do it, I'm not sure the liner was entirely correct, I ordered, and box was tossed ,
