Our 9 year pool light died last Summer and we are finally looking at taking care of it, swimming at night is one the best things about the pool! After looking it up online, I took the unit out of the pool, went to open the niche and realized that there is not way a bulb fits in there, it seems way too flat. I didn't open it but looked it up again and sure enough, it is not a bulb but a circuit board that will cost at least $950 to replace. Question: as there is no way we will replace anything for that price, can I replace the whole unit with one that has the same voltage but a different niche and one that uses a bulb so that we can fix it again if needed. If yes, where would I buy such a thing?

Yes, the LED pool lights (especially the multi colored ones) are very expensive. Having said that, by the time you find a quality incandescent replacement and pay to have the wiring and niche redone, you're probably going to be close to the cost of the replacement LED!

Not the reply I was hoping for, but thank you!!!

If you want a color changing, anything is going to be expensive. LED is nice but as you have found, once they fail there isn't way to fix them. I use an incandescent fixture and put an LED bulb in it. This way when the LED fails it can be reasonably be replaced along with a new gasket on the fixture.

I use this light Pentair EC602128 Amerilite 10 Inch 120 Volt 500 Watt Underwater Swimming Pool Spa Light with 50 Foot Cord and Heat Sensing Cutoff with this Allisable 50W LED Pool Light Bulb, 5000LM 120V 6000K Daylight White LED Swimming Pool Light Bulb, Replaces up to 200-800W Traditionnal Bulb.

If you order a Pentair fixture make sure to get one with a long enough cord. Still a bit pricey but cheaper.
