Pool Light - No transformer?

As if I wasn’t confused enough ?

I assume you found the J-box?
J-box? Is that contained within the subpanel?
The only electrical “stuff” we have that concerns our pool or outdoor light is a breaker that’s within our main electrical panel inside our house, the subpanel that’s inside the pump house, and the two on/off switches (one also has a plug) that are attached to the subpanel.

Do you see where it's connected in the junction box?
See above.
The bond wire is behind the niche if it's even there. Yiu would know if it was if its attached to the Jbox where light cord terminates. What I'm saying is there is a second ground not bond wire and that is what you see in the niche. Code stipulates that wire must be insulated stranded wire of not less than 10guage and it is to be covered with potting compound fo protect the terminal from water chemicals. Some inspectors want 8 guage depends who they are. I go thru this all the time. Look up Moke Holts pool wiring guide it tells you everything you need to know in a pdf file it's the Bible

Unless you see the bond wire in the first set of photos I attached, there is no such thing. Is it expected we would remove the niche to look? (Please say no.)

Thank you for the link. I’m going to send this to the electrician. I usually rather enjoy understanding how things work. But I think it’s time I surrendered to electrical anything.

The (not so) good news is that I now have more time to order anything we need. We’ve had more rain in the past 3 days than it seems we had all of last year combined. As such, the new paint hasn’t had time to cure and I’ve found a plethora of bubbles that have popped up and/or popped. We’re going to have to canvas the floor and find them all, sand, prime, repaint, and wait another 3-5 days for them to cure. So no pool for Memorial Day weekend for us. The part that’s most aggravating about it is all the coordination I had to do with the water company for a hydrant meter and with the City to block our street so the hose wouldn’t be ran over by a car (water co requirement).

Today I found myself secretly hoping maybe all the rain would pop the pool out of the ground and we would have to make an insurance claim to have it demoed and redone. Only downside to that is (1) lack of summer entertainment for our son; (2) all his hard work for swim team is gone; (3) we have owned the house for 11 years. Due to deployments and PCS’s husband has yet to be able to spend a single full summer in “his pool.” (He got 3 months two years ago. That’s it.) It’s all he’s talked about and is looking so forward to it.

Jesus take the wheel!

The Jbox, or junction box is an intermediate box where the conduit from the light fixture will terminate and another conduit will run from the Jbox to your sub-panel. It might look something like this

AJ.. your beat me to the same pic!

I took another look at your pic at the start of the thread.. and I don't see a jbox.. in older pools they were under the diving board. by code in most places they are supposed to be 3 feet above the waterline if I recall.

If there’s a j-box, it was put in prior to the concrete being poured. There’s no hole or faceplate in the concrete, and no evidence of a repair to the concrete. Though the concrete is stenciled/painted I would be able to see a patch or difference in the surface and there’s nothing.

Pool light junction boxes are required by code to be 4” above the ground or 8" above the water level. They are not inground except in old non-code compliant pools.

In the your first post you have a photo of the pool light wire & black wire going into a box with a switch/plug. That's it.

Only way to know for sure is to pop the switch box open and see if the pool light wire ends there amd is switched at that location. If not theres a Jbox somewhere. How old is the pool?

And no you dont remove the niche. You won't do that til you demo the whole pool one day

Just wanted to update and provide a quick “thank you!” to all that helped.
Light was installed this week (after digging up several feet of conduit and finding some one had crimped the line, preventing us from being able to pull the wires through). Water goes in tomorrow!
