Hi all- I’ve been doing the TFP guidelines for two seasons and it’s been amazing. I have had zero issues since following but something has creeped up on me and I want to verify a couple quick things.
I’ve been maintaining my salt water pool at 4-6 ppm FC, 0 CC, 45-50 cya, 250 calcium, 70 TA, 7.6-7.8 ph. I went away on vacation and my auto cover was on, water temp got to 100 degrees. Got home two days ago and tested the water and in about 10 days I lost all my chlorine, and now my Combined Chlorine is 4ppm. I added 150 oz of 12.5% chlorine and it didn’t bring the FC chlorine up at all. Was still reading less than 1. I just added 250oz more (it called for 220oz with the calculator) figured I’d slam it hard. But we keep the auto cover closed most of the time due to young children and I never lose my chemicals it seems doing that.
Is this the proper steps? I only ever did a slam one time when I started this and never have had to do much at all other than a once a week test with the Taylor 2006c kit. Water is crystal clear.
Does it add up that my pool being covered and getting that hot caused all this in a little over a week? Should I do anything else due to this? Or look for anything? If the cc drops to zero do I need to do an overnight chlorine test? Last question, my test kit is over a year old and sits outside in a cabinet, should I get all new chemicals? Im going to start storing in my house due to heat etc.
