Hi,

We had our existing pool updated last year in 2023 with permits in CA. There were no structural changes to the pool or spa other than added split drains for safety and added returns and an autofil. The PB left a lot to be desired with the finished product. The attached spa had an added split drain by the PB (not even in the contract), but we were informed by numerous PBs that the spa is only 37.5 inches deep and didn't require the split drain upgrade in CA according to according to as of 2023 VGB law requirements? Anybody know the specifics for this law with regards to an attached spa? THank you.

Here is some information on VGBA

The original federal VGBA applied to only public pools. This covers some of the aspects of the law for LA that was enacted back in 2009 and enforced in 2010 but only for public pools.

Many cities have since adopted similar requirements for residential pools as well buy it really depends on the local building codes.
