Polaris Quick Disconnect Not Easily Disconnecting

Hello TFP Forum Folks,

I am having trouble disengaging my Polaris 3900 Sport pressure pool cleaner from the pool wall. The photo attached shows the Polaris' Quick
Disconnect attached to the pool wall fitting. To remove the Polaris from service, I need to unscrew the pool wall fitting rather than just turning the Quick Disconnect.

When I opened the pool a few months ago, I had the same problem. With difficulty and a lot of elbow grease I was able to disengage the black and white parts in the picture. In an attempt to make the Quick Disconnect quick disconnectable, I applied a layer of Leslie's Pool and Spa Lube hoping that would solve my problem. It did not.

Assuming I can get these two parts separated again, anybody have any thoughts on what I should try next?

Thanks in advance.

The trick is you have to push in and twist to separate the UWF.

Have the pump off so you are not pushing against the water flow.

It is hard to do that when it is unscrewed from the wall.

You can see the hook in the red circle that holds a tab and you have to push it in compressing the O ring, which is hard, to get the tab to clear the hook and twist out.

A big thank you to both of the responders. Both were great suggestions.

Pushing in REALLY hard (when attached to the pool wall) then turning I was able to get the quick disconnect to disengage. Thanks for the info on compressing that O-ring.

I used to be able to disconnect the Polaris by lying on the pool deck with a slight push and turn of the Quick Disconnect. This time I had to stand in the pool to get enough oomph to compress that O-ring. I'm going to look into replacing the O-ring at this point. Perhaps it, like me, had gotten less flexible with age.

Thank again. Your feedback was much appreciated!
