PLEASE: Identify these components in Parallel Pump Configuration

Compool was bought by Pentair. Those Compool diverters will use Pentair diverter parts.

I believe someone retrofitted a spa jet pump into a spa with a single drain.

Refer to the picture below. Everything is subject to your verification and is my speculation.

The green diverter valve is your POOL/SPA suction. In the picture the diverter is choking off water flow into the main pump which is not good and may be causing your pulses. Turn that handle clockwise so that OFF aligns with your spa suction pipe. Now you should pull all the water from your pool and none from the spa.

The yellow diverter valve is your skimmer/main drain balance valve. Pipes are labeled A and B. You need to determine which pipe goes to the skimmers and which goes to the main drain.

Red diverter valve is your POOL/SPA return valve. Right now it is set for 50/50 flow between pool and spa. The diverter is blocking both pipes and is not an efficient setting but we can get back to that later.

With your setup by adjusting the red and green valves you can:
  • Filter and heat your pool and spa with your spa spillover running (Green valve OFF over SPA suction pie; red valve split 50/50 between spa and pool)
  • Filter and heat your spa only (green valve OFF over POOL suction pipe; red valve OFF over POOL return pipe)
  • Run your spa jets and NOT filter and heat your spa (green valve OFF over SPA suction; main pump off; jet pump on)
Trying to run both pumps at the same time and filter and heat your spa and have the spa jets running is where the spa suction conflict will arise. It may or may not work.

We can discuss other permutations of valve settings.

The pool can be heated independently of the spa.

The spa can be heated independently of the pool.

The only kludge in this was the sharing of the spa suction drain to have a separate spa jet pump.

I would spring for new handles for your diverter valves.

So, I understand not wanting to suck from the spa at all times (green), and not wanting to heat the pool at all times (red), but what is the yellow diverter for? Is it just to be able to troubleshoot skimmer and drain lines wouldn't you always just suck as much water as possible from the pool?

The yellow valve allows you to select the main drain or the skimmer or both..

We normally recommend that you only open the main drain about 10% and have your skimmer as open as possible.. You gain a lot having more skimmer suction, and gain almost nothing by having main drain suction..

I am assuming that is your main drain.. it could also be a vac line.. Do you have a vacuum port in the side wall of your pool somewhere???

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ok so I'll be a good member and post the resolution here for anyone that cares. And btw this help was priceless. There should be a tip jar or tip bot I would buy all you guys a coffee ☕. God knows what a pool guy or plumber charges for this stuff assuming he's even honest it's an arm and a leg still...

I really don't know how I "operated" this thing for three years without knowing what anything really did and with one, maybe two bad check valves, one maybe more bad diverters. I replaced both the diverters next to the pumps with the lube-less jandy just because it was easier and almost the same price as getting guts for and replacement handles of the old compools. I did do just the guts (actually will do this weekend) of the diverter after the heater and got a new handle thanks to the Amazon link provided by someone.

Both the check valves were replaced (internals).

Superpump gaskets were replaced even though they weren't that old but now I'm applying tube lube to all the gaskets and orings I encounter.

Ultimately the air leak was none of those things there was a loose fitting going into the main pool pump which was sucking air. So that was replumbed.

Everything is running peachy now I just unfortunately broke either the manifold or the seals associated with the heater manifold while troubleshooting so that is still leaking like a sieve. But despite the leak everything is running and even the Polaris is cleaning up nicely.

Once again thanks all. If there's a donation box please point me in the right direction.
