call me ill tell you what I did I'm not gone waste my time here I spend 4 weeks and also helped 15 others wont he same situation as well as pool builders and maintenance guys all rely on me now I’ve gotten over 100 calls. ill give you my number ill help. Even sdp pools and npt which are the biggest plaster builder pool guys in van Nuys called me and came and saw the situation and I guided them the prooer path. It’s not rocket science it’s jay that people are use to hearing manfscturr which don’t even haven any professional tell them our system is best and your at fault nothing is the dake
Anymore nothing even tech support there all people with no experience or background in anything pools

Hi I have the same problem…in my case I have this filter since 2013 and this problem just started now. It might be unrelated but it started after I installed four new filters supposedly from Pentair purchased from Amazon. It only shoots de into the pool from the returns after the pump looses prime when I open the lid or perform any other activity where air gets into the system. The DE rides on the bubbles and it stops when all the air is gone.
So it definitely has something to do with air in the filter…otherwise it works as it always did.

Pictures of it disassembled? The air relief screen and top spring are all intact?

Bus,

Anytime you open the system, water will drain out of the filter and back into the pool, unless you have a valve that stops it.

I believe they call it gravity.

Does your Quad 80 have an MPV valve?

Hi the DE goes in the pool via the returns after I turn the pump back on. So it's not gravity but water pressure. As long as there is no air in the system it works as intended. I'm stumped...it just started doing this so I'm guessing something must be broken or my new filters are bad. I can't see anything upon close inspection...was hoping to find a crack or tear but nothing!

Curious, why do you need new cartridges? They should last a very long time.

I have the same question…my Quad DE 100 is leaking DE into the pool via the returns when air enters the system and I can’t find the reason…so I would like to just use regular cartridges and forget my De nightmare … upon casual inspection the guts of the Quad DE and Clean and Clear are exactly the same (looked at replacement parts). I would go with 400 sq f probably…can i get a blessing from the experts?

On some filters, aren't the inlet and outlet connections reversed between DE and cartridge models?

EDIT - or maybe the connections are different between the sand and DE filters.

Yes…mine are correct (it worked perfectly since 2013)

I see that…also found out the DE filters are 3/4” taller and 3/4” thiner…so back to square one…will learn to live with DE in pool .

My nightmare is soon to be over…just purchased a Pentair Clean and Clear Plus 520…arriving next week…no more white stuff all over!
