Hi, we just finished our pool and spa in February of this year. We’ve had this issue with “communication lost” 3 times since start up. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue or if someone may have an idea of what’s going wrong.

In a nutshell, I randomly notice that the pool is not on during the automated scheduled run time because the tiles from the spa spillway are dry. Outside, the control panel and pool pumps have power, but the pump screen says 0 RPM, when it should say “Display not active” because it is in auto mode. In the Pentair ScreenLogic app, there’s a system alert that says “Pump 1: Communication Lost; Pump 2: Communication Lost; Chlorinator: Communication Lost”. The pump does not respond to the app but I can hear clicking on the panel outside and the lights under the function buttons also turn on and off. To get it to work again I have to go to the main circuit breaker. That seems to reset it and it works fine again until it doesn’t. This issue has recurred 3 times, about every 2-3 weeks on 03/11/22, 04/02/22, and 04/19/22 and it’s a little frustrating.

Thanks in advance!

M,

The EasyTouch has one com port on the main board and three com ports on the Surge card (SWCG power supply card). Some techs try to cram as many wires as they can into the one connection on the main board. This often leaves some of the wires with intermittent connections.

A better option is to run the supplied cable from the main card's com port to one of the three surge card com ports, and then use the other two surge card com port for all the other connections.

If you screw with any of the com ports make sure that the power is off to the entire EasyTouch.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thank you for your reply- just wanted to post an update.

I finally reached out to my pool builder who then put in a Pentair warranty service call. The tech came out and was very familiar with this issue and told me that Pentair recently put out a firmware update which will likely fix this problem. The last event was July 6, firmware was updated on July 28 and now it’s been over 6 weeks since the firmware update and over 9 weeks since the last communication lost error. Hoping we are in the clear since it used to occur every 2-3 weeks.

Thanks for the update.

Was that a firmware update to your EasyTouch or to the pumps?
