Pentair 125 heater

Does the manifold need to be removed to get to thermal regulator
Heater goes on for a few minutes shuts off
I hear a rattling sound in manifold area

TY
It always best to replace the bypass assembly if the thermal regulator is damaged, and that does require the manifold to be disassembled. Usually, when one goes bad the other follows quickly, so much so that I stopped only replacing one part, warrantying my work and having to do the other for free. Did that twice, learned a lesson, and that was enough. Not really that hard and there are videos on the process that help.

Just to clarify manifold does not need to be removed if only doing thermal regulator
