We are under construction. This site has been super helpful, I appreciate reading over tips and things others have done. So, we've never had a pool...and we have no pool building skills to speak of...but sure, why cant we do it ourselves?
Our friend designs DIY pools for people all over (and he was a builder), so he's been very helpful guiding us along in the process. This is what we are doing:
18x32 Sport pool (no spa). 4-6-4 depth. I read so many opinions on depth choices, we are happy with this choice. We wanted to be able to swim and float, maybe a water game, jumping in (no diving).
We have secured all of the subs so far, we've already got the hole dug and plumbing is in preliminary stages. We got hit with A LOT of rain...so I hope to get going again tomorrow.
Here is what we are planning with equipment:
Intelliflo 2 Variable speed
2 Intellibrite Color
3 sheer descents
We are undecided on doing a heater at all (most people don't use theirs here) but if we do, we'll do a heat pump. Gas is out--it's not worth doing.
Automatic Cover--likely a Coverstar--we are just working out some options on the lid choices.
We'll be doing a simulated Travertine at the waterline and up the bond beam--no real "bling" I know, but we love the colors in Travertine.

Here is our original plan, but of course we have changed it a bit. We're planning to create an extended deck on that upper bond beam. It will go back about 10 feet and it's 10 feet wide, and the steps down on either side will be wider than the image here--each step will be 3 feet and there will be a sheer decent (for a total of 3 decent).
Let me know if I've missed any details, I appreciate going through this with everyone!
