Overflow shelf design

Hi all,

I am in the process of designing a marble shelf for our overflow from the spa to the pool. I read some issues reg water "sticking" to the material, and not making a waterflow. So I was wondering how I could make the shelf so it has a water drip line. Should I ask the marble guy to, when he makes is beveled, to make a small cut/incision on the underside, to "break" the waterflow (What I have tried to mark with the red line here).

I am sorry for my terrible Paint skills, but I hope you get the idea.

The shelf is going to be 13 in x 48 in with a 1.5 in overhang.

Ay suggestions are highly appreciated.

Yes, if you cut the bottom side it will break the water flow.
I like to have the shelf cut back to the spa about 1/4” or more, that will build up pressure on the water before leaving the spa to help push the water a little farther out and most of all it keeps the spillway submerged when the pump is off.

Like the pic, my spa level rises by that additional height during overflow. Mine actually has and negative edge, as I have a tiered spa face. I've never had any issue making an overflow, waterfall, or, can run real slow and just have a flow down the whole face.
