Have you dug down in all areas, or is there a high point that is untouched? Just curious.

I would at least get an estimate on having someone come out and level it for you if you haven't already. With proper equipment it probably would take someone that does this for a living a couple hours to have it level within 1/2".
 
Everything was untouched until earlier in the week when i took a tiller to it..... Ground is down to clay now. I only tilled about 3" of the 6" that needs to be moved.

Luckily my buddy might have small skid loader tomorrow and can help me skim off these high spots! If this goes well we will be level and on undisturbed ground.
 
T.Heck, I'm in the same boat right now. Well, sorta. We have an intex 16x32, that we're dropping also. Our hole is quite a bit deeper though. It does sound like you overpaid to have it dig out. My first quote was $500 & he would take the dirt. My awesome guy that dug the hole charges me $100 an hour & it took him an hour & a half, but I do have a lot of dirt left now. I have the same plan to build a retaining wall, it rained the day after we had ours dug and of course it got quite a bit of water in it. So we've been on a standstill since. Also, I see that yours is a 'pit' as well, everyone else I've seen do this has had an area to drain off to. I'm planning to install a diy dry well probably at both ends, what are you going to drain off to? And also, this may be a stupid question, but I have over analyzed this drainage stuff way too much. How does drainage behind the wall keep the actual pit from filling with water?

Windy that sounds scary..... I didnt even think of drainage, We've had some storms the last couple weeks and there's never been water in the pit.

I have no idea but I will be looking in to this, We planned on setting the pool up soon as Wednesday :/
 
Surprised u got it level with a string level. I've never been able to do it and have not seen anybody else be able to do it. When I go check with a Lazer level it's always out... that's a lot of digging..lol
 
Do you have a tool rental place by you? We rented a digger from a local place but home depot had them as well to rent for a very reasonable price. We had to dig 29" and then the pool installer did the last 6" for $300.00 making sure the whole thing was level. He was just some construction guy the pool installer hired so that is another option. Have someone with experience level it the rest of the way, shouldn't cost too much. I am in northern NJ where everything is super expensive. I put down stone dust which is supposed to be very good at compacting which cost me $400 delivered for 11 yards. The sand went on top of that.

I just completed a DIY 18x33. I also dug down into the ground for my base. My dig area was 20'x35' and 8" deep. I used crusher stone as someone above suggested. I purchased 26 tons but purchased in 3 increments as I compacted each increment to ensure an even compact. Then my sand base and then a gorilla pad then my liner. Leveling the sand was challenging because I did not want to bring any of the crusher stone to its surface.

I don't know about the pricing you gave. I'm sure it is different everywhere

We got so much rain yesterday we couldnt get anything more done.... And theres more coming. At least I got to see how the water is sitting in the hole and it looks pretty good.

I decided to go with aglime instead of sand since I wanted something that will compact good. 5.5 yards will be here tomorrow for $171 delivered.

How do you like the gorilla pad roxx?
 
Sorry T.Heck. Been out of town at the beach with the kids!

So here is the difference I noticed. My feet don't hurt. My x father in law has a ABG pool. No pad, just sand base. I can remember my feet began to hurt the longer I stood up on his floor. My gorilla pad is so soft! A foam floor might be even better and I will consider that the next liner replacement but for now my feet are in heaven!

So here is the rub.....when I installed this liner, I had to work the wrinkles out of the liner floor (like everyone else) BUT when I move the liner floor. the gorilla pad moved also. There isn't really a way to secure it to the sand base. In short, it was a pain in the arse to get the wrinkles out and keep the gorilla pad straight.

I think I could secure a foam pad with duct tape to the pool wall so it wouldn't move. PLUS the foam is 2" thick of pure foot joy!!
