Hello!! The pool company upped the price to open again so we decided to do it ourselves this year. We have the cover off, the plugs out of the skimmer and screws back in. We can not get the pump to prime. It turns on, but doesn’t seem to suck any water and then shuts off after a few seconds. I read about opening the air valve, but I don’t see one on our system. Help!!

Get us some pics of the equipment pad from various angles and a wide angle shot to see the whole thing. Are there any valves before the pump ?
It's on top of the filter but some filters don't have one. It won't help with priming either way.

Your suction side valves are all closed. Be sure to open the one that goes to the skimmer.
We did open it while trying to prime the pump, but no luck. It just doesn’t seem to be pulling any water.

Did you lube the O rings on the TWO drain plugs in the bottom of the pump?
You put Pool Lube on the lid gasket?

This ^^^ says open it. Did you open these valves? In this picture they are closed! They need to be parallel to be open.

Along with what the others said, did you fill the pump with water before tightening lid?
