I tested my water to start slamming. Ph is above 8, used meratic acid, used pool math. It has been mixing for an hour. Still around 8. Is that long enough for it to mix in? Also the acid I have is two years old, does it lose its ability?

Since your pH test can only test pH up to 8 you don't know how far above 8 it is.
When the pH tests at 8 or above you tell PoolMath it is 8 and your TA with a target of 7.6. Add the dose of muriatic acid PM calculates. Wait 30 minutes, test, and repeat until your pH is in the 7's.
Muriatic acid is stable and lasts a long time in storage.
