Opening my pool and want to do it real nice this time

+1. Above ground pools are easy peasy to close because the plumbing more or less drains itself.

Yours won't even be akward putting the cover on because the semi inground is comfortably waist high.

They wanted $700something to close me last year, your guy must be charging similar. The first time is a little akward like anything else, but after that it will be easy year after year to save all that coin.

hello people- I am about 10 days away from the end of the season. It has been horrible weather the last 2 days- very cloudy and rainy. Finally able to test water-- pH is 8.2 ,TA is 100 and CH is 25 ,CYA still 50, and FC is only 3-- yes only 3-- I just added 84 ounces to bring it back to 9. The pool looks very clear and blue and I just vacuumed it again. All season my numbers stayed relatively the same. I just purchased more bleach for next year. Hope all is well- I will check in again next week-- I had a pretty tough time finding my posts.-- I had to go on my computer and type in recent conversations. On my phone I had no such luck-- I need to know what to do in the future so that I can get back to MY threads quickly- please advise.

Please tell your guy that you'll handle the chemicals. It would be a rootin tootin shame if he used a bunch of magic potions now that you're off the sauce.

Run an overnight FC loss test and prove there's nothing brewing. (It did hit 3 recently). Then either dose to SLAM, or dose to half SLAM and add polyquat60 (non copper based algecide).

What’s the water temp currently? It is recommended to wait until its in the low 60’s & falling before closing.

Almost everyone here opens on Memorial day weekend and closes on Labor Day weekend. If either weekend is terrible, they're allowed to use the weekend before/after. It's weird. Mid September might be high 80s and humid but swimming is no longer a thought.

I absolutely hated looking at the green trampoline and wanted to be looking at the water as long as possible.

He does not add ANYTHING. I always ask him why and he says that since the pool is full to the skimmer that it does not need anything. And upon opening in the past there was never a problem. So by my adding just the bleach it is more than has ever been done. All he does is put the winter cover on and put the ice balloon in the middle and take apart all the hardware and lock everything down. Its only $90 and it gives me piece of mind. So as mentioned o will bring the pool to slam level. Do i really need that polyquat algecide?? And if i do where do i get that from. And also as mentioned. O will vacuum and backwash the night before he comes. Then after that will put the blesch in usually at about 10 PM. And then he comes the next morning. Is this sufficient

We're split down the middle between

1) full slam
2) half slam + ployquat

I've done both and I firmly believe nobody is wrong. I'm currently on team full slam.
He does not add ANYTHING
Ok AWESOME !!!

Overnight Chlorine Loss Test a few days before they come. Raise it to slam that day. It's much easier to OCLT now with later sunrises than last time. Lol.

I know what you mean- and I do appreciate that you like sticking more with a full slam. That sounds like what I want to do especially since over the time I went away I brought it to slam then and all was great when I came back- so I will stick with what you taught me- full slam and close the pool- and fingers crossed for next season. I bought way more than enough bleach for the rest of this season and for a bit into next- I have 13 bottles. :)

Wait until water temp is below 60 degrees to close. Do a full slam. Let FC drift 1/2 way to normal FC level for your CYA. Add normal dose of polyquat 60. Open the pool when pool temp is still below 60 degrees in the spring, you will find you still have a residual FC and your pool will be clear in the spring.

I appreciate your reply- but I think I am going to stick with just bleach and bring my pool to slam level the night before closing. As for the temperature?- I always close my pool after or about Labor Day- nobody goes in the pool after that since my wife is back at school and we are all working as usual. Even if it gets hot on the weekend it never really gets that hot for anyone to want to go into cold water. And for me to keep adding bleach and vacuuming etc. with nobody using the pool is a waste of energy. And as for opening the pool- the same thought process goes there also. it is not a perfect world. But I usually open the pool about fathers Day- or maybe around Memorial Day weekend. It is still fairly cool then and again nobody goes into the pool at that time unless it is exceptionally nice. So it is not really the temperature that I go by but more the time of season. That is why I have been opening and closing as I have been doing and it seems to be fine as the change of seasons does not allow a pleasant experience in a very cold pool for anyone. But thank you again for your reply.

My thoughts exactly-- same opening and closing times and regardless of the fluke weather that might occur- nobody is going to go in the colder water pool- so better to close.

for some reason- even though I was logged in and my user name was showing-- I did the above steps--and everything was there EXCEPT- MY threads./ It just said forums and threads NOT MY threads? That is where I seemed to have trouble. So I went on my computer and went to the web site and found a topic called RECENT conversations and that got me in. But on my phone, I could not find that? Don't really understand it either.
