So my pool is cyrticsl clear but I still get a thin layer of brown Crud on the steps after a few days. SLAM?

If you suspect a problem, it's always best to do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test first.

My benches, ledges, and steps always have a layer of dirt lol problems of a desert / dirt yard with 2 german shepherds i just brush them off & let robot get it on the floor

Honestly, I don’t even check my chlorine level much anymore with my SWG. I will, but just haven’t. Yeah, I have dogs that swim and live in Tx with wind and storms. I’ll probably shock. Last several times I checked the stats I’ve never had any cc. SWG set at 40%. I only ask because I need to raise my cya and need to slam before I do that. Liquid chlorine is hard to find generally.

Even with the SWG, you should continue to test frequently. Make sure your FC level never drops below the minimum for your CYA level. Seasonal changes require adjusting SWG runtime and output. With the high cost of chlorine, completing a slam is expensive nowadays. With a SWG and a good test kit, there should be no reason to waste the time and money.
