On and off with Cartridge filter system

Hello,

I am changing out my sand filter system with a Cartridge system on my 24ft round above ground pool. With the Hayward Sand system I had it on a timer at about 10 to 12 hours a day. Can I do this with a Cartridge system? I don't know alot about how/if it reprimes everytime and such. In short, does it lose prime everytime it gets shut off and make me have to open the bleed valve everytime I turn it back on??
I would hate to have to run the pump 24/7.

The type of filter system you have has no effect on the pump operation. If you are seeing the system drain down each night and losing prime you have a leak in the system.

How long you run the pump is based on how you chlorinate the pool water and how much you need to skim the surface.

With an above ground pool, the equipment is almost always below water level. If you're losing prime, you have big issues.

The simple answer for you is that there is no difference between a sand filter in a cartridge filter for priming the system. The air bleed valve is to let air out when you have to drain the system for some reason like cleaning the filter or opening the pump basket.

Very good. That answers my question perfectly. I will run it on a timer just like I did with the sand filter system. I haven't opened the pool yet and that is why I asked about the losing prime question. New to the Cartridge system thing.
