Problem with filter retaining ring

Hello my filter retaining rings keeps falling off, everytime we open it up the ring falls off and we jam it back into place.

Is there a fix for this or is it nessesary to replace or can I just not need to put back again?

This is a Pentair 195339 Stainless Steel Back-Up Ring for Clean and Clear Plus Cartridge Filters, FNS Plus D.E. Filters, and Quad D.E. Filters. Item key on schematic may not appear. This back-up ring goes inside the tank and is used on filters manufactured after 3/03.

We still got the old one, it just falls off but we can jam it back into place.

What is the lifespan of a filter?

You could probably find a welder that can weld stainless steel to repair that. You could drill it an use stainless steel rivets to put it back together. You can see the ones that are designed to keep it at the correct height in the tank.

With care the tank can last decades. Those Pentair tanks need to be "painted" from time to time as the sun deteriorates the gel coat. Even cheap clear paint works for a few years to help it last longer and keep the tiny fibers out of your skin. Pentair markets matching paint, but it is too expensive for what you get.
