OMNI PL + Max-E-Therm Gas Heater Woes

This post is entirely related to OMNI PL and an (old) Max-E-Term Gas heater.

backstory. System ran fine up until about 2 months ago. "Ran fine" = OMNI PL iPhone app controlled everything just fine. If we wanted to go in the spa, we select the Spa pump, if we want the (SPA) gas heater on - we turned it on / off via the App and the heater fired and ran the spa up to and maintained temperature.

Worked great.

Then one day, it did not.

First thing I did was call a reputable local company to look at our VERY old Max-E-Therm. His words - "She's a tired old girl, but she works fine" (the heater was installed in 2004 when the pool was built - and (bang on desk) doesn't leak. Meaning - he jumped out the 24vdc cutout inside the heater control box (which removes the Omni from the circuit) and Viola - the heater came on and (even today) fires right up and heats the spa. For the record, I will call this "MANUAL MODE" spa control - meaning we have to go to the heater, use the membrane keypad and turn the heater on and set the temperature. Works great, just a PITA not being able to use the app.

OMNI PL continues to not control the heater.

I've tried pretty much everything I can think of. I've moved the 24v Spa Enable wires from Max-E-Therm to LVDC Relay #2, then edited the configuration to reflect the new relay..... and what I get now is the OMNI now "TURNS ON" the gas heater --- electrically --- but it does not fire and produce heat when under control of the OMNI (yes, I am reconnecting the heater cut out to OMNI during this testing). If i disconnect the heater cut-out switch, the heater continues to work fine in Manual Mode, igniter fires and makes heat.

OMNI is updated to current firmware.

We do not run the Spa or the Max-E-Therm gas heater on any schedule.

We do have solar as priority on the POOL body of water.

No programming mods/changes/updates were done between the system working and not-working.

thoughts / ideas????

You, likely, have a bad water-temperature sensor for the Omni. When they fail, for safety the Omni (nor any other automation) will not allow the heater to fire.
