Ohhhhh...

So I'm back in the same place. Poolextremely cloudy n swg not working. I don't know what is wrong with it.

Cold water shutoff ? After that taste of summer a while ago, many nights have been 40s and I even woke up to 37 the other day.

Are u sure It’s not producing?
Do you have any indicator lights on?
Have you tried to catch an fc sample at the return?
I may have missed it, did you pass your
Overnight Chlorine Loss Test previously?
You know the drill—> slam 1st, then troubleshoot swg.

I got a hold of PB and he wanted to check to see if SWG was producing. Salt was 2700. He said add 2 more bags and check at return without adding FC. I just did that and it's putting out 2.5 FC roughly 10 minutes after adding salt. I'm running it on boost for now at his request to see if it'll put out n if it doesn't, he'll cover it under warranty. So I gotta bear with the process to see if it'll work with the additional salt.

Such a huge change. Pool is 87° too and covered when not in use so it doesn't take long.

Pool looks a little better but... it's just not putting out like I thought it was. I'm going to SLAM it right now. PB said wait a couple days for salt to dissolve. How long does it take. I added 2 40lb bags last evening n checked it just now n it's reading 2800ppm. It was 2700 yesterday before salt. He says it needs a few days to dissolve fully.

Here is the pool today. 20230518_160702.jpg

Slam now- retest salt tomorrow. You need to be algae free & passing the oclt to do an overnight chlorine gain test for the swg anyway. Everything else is just a guess.

I'm doing that right now. I just want to know how long 80lbs of salt takes to fully dissolve n give me an accurate reading.

I dumped over 400 pounds of salt in my pool and ran the robot a couple of times to make sure it was mixed around. By the next day, it was all dissolved and testing appropriately.
I swept it through yesterday. I can't see it on the bottom. I'm just wondering if I could add another bag now n get a jump on it? It went from 2700 to 2800 in 24 hrs.

It's my understanding (and I may be wrong here) that more salt doesn't necessarily mean better output from your SWCG. It's either producing or its not. Maybe there's an incremental benefit, but I don't think a few 100 ppm of salt should make the difference. 24 hours should be plenty though to dissolve the salt - odd it only went up 100 ppm.

Correct. But she is teetering on the low side so one bag might put her back into range.

The risk of adding too soon, is overshooting if the previously added salt hasn't fully mixed yet.

This.

80 pounds of salt in a 17k gallon pool should have raised salt over 400ppm.

I can’t imagine it would take more than 48hrs to completely mix (assuming pump running the entire time). In our pool if I add a bag or two it fully registers in well less than 24 hrs.

I'm trying to rule out everything to determine if I need to go through warranty. I had no issues last year with the SWG. it was the plumbing. Now this year it's the SWG. I'll be retesting salt today to see what it is.

Casey, I wasn't sure and reread when you were saying you dumped the salt and then tested. In case I missed something you should never run the cell for 24 hours after dropping salt into the pool. Any concentrated water going through the cell can really reek havoc and burn up the cell. Use your salinity k1766 test kit and don't rely on the SWCG. Just do a slam and go through the motions and you'll turn it around fast.
You may want to clean the cell out with a vinegar mix to remove oxidation that can form on the plates as it's not harsh like MA and won't shorten the life span of the cell and can do wonders.

It looks like the Jandy cell doesn't want above 4000ppm if I can convert units worth a Dang

I'd be wary of adding salt in haste and creating another issue. I certainly wouldn't want to put another 80# in there, particularly when the salt number has moved in an unexpected way. A bit less water in the pool than you think, a futzed test or a slow dissolution of the salt, 200ppm accuracy on the salt test and all of a sudden you are up there with Icarus.
