i did two VS pumps so I can run my water features at any time and dial in the flow I want to make the features look the best. I think it’s worth it and a drop in the bucket when you consider the whole project. Either way will work but I think you will be more happy with two pumps.

We have 2 variable speed pumps. One for the Pool/spa and the other runs our waterfall and slide. The vs pump is a plus for us because the noise on the waterfall is just so loud at full speed so we run that at at 60% most of the time, but we like to run the slide at 100%.

Keep in mind your pool deck can't be all "+0". It needs to drain somewhere and your existing lot drainage will dictate where. Also take a good look about to see if you have any drainage paths coming in from neighboring lots.

Hoping to start excavation on October 16, 2017. This will include removal of all backyard landscaping, lowering elevation approximately 4 inches and cutting out 60 feet by 2 feet of concrete.

Here is a list of anticipated equipment. It includes two Intelliflo VS pumps. I recall a thread that addressed the preferred water feature pump and it wasn't a VS pump. Any input would be appreciated.

Howdy neighbor! I live near Paradise Crest approx 4 miles east of The Strip off Flamingo. As a pool owner since we moved hear in 2009 I can tell you one thing I really wish we had was an in floor cleaner. The strong wings we have hear in the desert will blow a lot of dirt into your pool and its contact work to clean it. I dido finally spend the money on a vacuum side cleaner: Hayward The Pool Cleaner 4 Wheel Cleaner - 896584000-020 - INYOPools.com
but the built it systems are just so slick. My friend Scott W. who owns the Vegas Video Network had the system in his last house and I was very impressed while over for a pool party. The heads pop up from the floor sequentially and push the leaves and dirt toward the special drain cover. The vacuum side cleaners work for blown in dirt but will get clogged with leafs. I can't recommend an in-floor cleaning system enough. We need to re-plaster our pool, it looks like the surface of the moon, when we do I decided I'm cutting into the shell and running the plumbing for an in-floor system.

In floor systems work great IF the installer knows what they are doing. The floor has to be sloped just right and the pop up have to be installed just so. Use care when you pick who is going to do the work.

Thanks for the input Civic. I'm gonna skip the in-floor cleaning after a bunch of reading. I'll probably be crying a year from now about this decision.

An update on my pool project that hasn't even started yet.

Cruella de vil (financial advisor, wife, other names) has finally loosened her grip on my pool money. She hasn't let go completely but I have been able to slide a couple dollars out. She has a definite set dollar limit that I am having a hard time meeting. Project has been delayed a couple weeks. Plans, engineering and HOA are done. Hopefully permits tomorrow. Excavation hopefully next week.
Lesson learned:
When getting bids, make sure your are asking for apple to apple comparisons. I was not careful with this. Gunite bid was great until I told him I didn't want his tile work (too many dollars). Quickly learned to structure the bid process. Some subs want to bid on different phases of the project. I have now asked for specific bids for each phase and we can negotiate multiple phase discounts. Still haven't discussed cash discounts with most subs (This is where I have to knock off about $2,700.00 or Cruella will put a nix on my plans.)

It is a learning process for sure. When I start something new I always give the first person a call back to give them a fighting chance once I learned what or how to ask about something and the price. Quite a few times they were eager to earn my money and cut me a deal for giving them a chance.

Plans and finances are all in place. Thanks again to a bunch of TFP members. Jeevs, Quinguy, Big Will, Imaz. There's a couple I'm missing. I would never have attempted this without all the help.

I decided this build was going to be like a 100 yard dash. Complete by New Years Eve. Off to the City Building Department for permits and submit for HOA approval.
Stumbled right out of the blocks. Face plant. Failure.
HOA didn't see the email with my plans. They'll try to get to it Monday.
Tuesday- Showed up at building department at 8AM. Waited two hours, met with two representatives who couldn't approve plans if they wanted to and then was told that the city is short staffed and had no plans checkers available for the day. Come back tomorrow after 12pm.
Wednesday- Showed up at 11AM (over achiever). Two hours, Two more representatives. Second one says "Thanks for coming. Leave your plans and I'll call you when they are approved. About two weeks. But don't forget to pay or we can't check the plans". Not complaining about the city workers. They were very nice and even smiled while telling I'm out of luck.

I said "Thank You" and walked out with an angry face.

Not to be defeated- Saturday morning excavation crew shows up with trucks, jack hammers and bobcats. Our deal is they can do everything except dig a hole. (Because i failed at permits and HOA approval). WOW!!! My HOA architecture committee is gonna be mad. Street is a mess, backyard is a mess and nobody in the neighborhood is taking a Saturday nap due to the noise.

I turned the water off in the back yard in August. This is dry Las Vegas. Somehow the greenery is greener than if I had been spending hours each week trying to keep things alive. I don't get it.

Another lesson learned. Floor is a mess. wood/door mat tomorrow. The FA has been about perfect for quite a lot of years. No complaints.

Oh man!!!! Sounds like the CITY is a PAIN!!! I had to go through them to get my sewer permit and it was real painful. Lucky for me I fall under Clark County and they were / are wonderful and efficient to work with!! On the other hand my association was unresponsive after 4 weeks of me calling, emailing forms and plans so I just decided to dig, a day later they email me and said I wasn't approved hahahahaha.... I said I'm going forward I have submitted everything and we worked it out. Hopefully you can get started soon. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

Jeev, Still no official word from HOA. Lady that heads the ARC committee texted me this morning and said " I hope you got your approval". Not sure what she was getting at. She lives about 100 yards from my house and I'm guessing she heard a lot of jack hammer and concrete saw. Oops. I won't push my luck with permits. No digging a hole till I have them in hand.
