O/B SoCal IE

I just found your build and got caught up! Welcome! LOVE the coping and deck!!! The glass tile and the stone are beautiful together! BUT, since you asked...I agree with your wife. The glass tile is PERFECT on the spa. It stands out as a focal point and is lovely! As the waterline tile against the stone, I think a larger 6x6 tile in a coordinating color would go better. Is it too late to change it??

Thanks Nursenini for the honest input.. Glad you like most of it :) I might be able to change it but the money might be too much...As all O/B I'm already way over budget since I decided to upgrade everything..:) Im just glad these were her picks..

OK TFP'ers Need input. Rock and tile are now in. Wife is saying too busy ( good thing she picked them both out) I like the look.

I agree, right now it does look busy. But once the pool is full of water, it will look less busy. Also, 3 inches of the glass tile will be below the waterline. I still think it looks great! By the way, what type of pool finish do you have planned?

I like it and I wouldn't change a thing! I agree that water will change everything. I also like that the scale of the tile and the stone are different. MUCH more interesting to me - and different. Why would you want to look like everyone else? Love it when people "push the envelope" a bit! [emoji4]

It may be busy, but its busy awesome. Yeah, my DW picked our roof color thank goodness. She's never liked it.

Looking for final instructions? Ok It will never be final, as Ill be hanging at this site all the time...

Plaster is today.. Going with BigWill's colors... Stonescapes Tropics Blue, with Blue glass and shells..

Ive read and searched about Start -up and still am not comfortable with what Ive read.

Since Im the O/B im on my own..

So Mods? D you have a list ? I have read the startup page Pool School - Start-up New Plaster and searched the forums.

I have questions about method, adding salt/ not adding salt, using the pool etc... Fisrt CYA, Then Bleach, then ??? My head is spinning..

Maybe Im overthinking this..

But I have until Friday morning most likely.

1.) Take meter readings to determine the approximate gallonage of the pool
2.) Add a Startup Sequestrant (Startup Tec, Beautec, etc) based off the gallonage of your pool
3.) Run the pump 24/7 for 2 weeks
4.) Add a floater with Trichlor pucks (or put the pucks in the skimmer basket as long as the pump is running continuously)
5.) Maintain the pH between 7.5-7.8
6.) Wait 1 month before adding salt and using the salt cell (unplug it from the panel so it isn't needlessly running during this time)
7.) Brush the pool as often as possible
8.) Post up your test results frequently
9.) Don't use the heater until there is no more plaster dust - Probably 2-3 weeks

I thought pucks was a no go? thought just added bleach?

Pucks are bad for uninformed users but are a great option for startups because they introduce chlorine very slowly to new plaster, add small amounts of CYA and offer some acidity to combat the inherent pH rise a new pool owner will experience. They will really only be used for the month or so before the SWG is put into service.

Brain,

Thank you for the advice and steps. That makes me feel great. And as I've said before, great work on the other SoCal build. Will keep you in mind for other builds. ( I have been asked by 2 others if I would help if they build). I believe we have a lot in common and will PM you.

Mcow - Saw your thread this morning as well. Like that pool.

Congrats on the plaster! Are you going a shade darker with your tropics blue or just the standard formula?
Also be sure to hand cast lots of shells in the shallow, spa, and benches especially! That will give you the best bang for your buck and make that water shine. If you do a lot on your steps it will look like a sandy beach entry which we love in our pool.
Can't wait to see pics :)
