No DE On Lower Half of Grids

Will a leaky filter case cause this?

Noticed this morning that my DE filter was leaking pretty at the main gasket join. I opened it up and noticed that the lower half of the grids had no DE stuck to them. Exactly where the bottom half of the filter connects to the top half. This leads me to believe that it was due to the leak.

Am I correct?

I got the thing sealed up tight now. Added lube liberally on the o-ring. Hoping I am right because I dont want to take that thing apart again until the next cleaning.

By the way, the grids are brand new. No holes and there are no leaks anywhere else.

Thanks.

Cuban,

Sounds pretty normal to me... Happens to me when I open the filter when not backwashing.. Seems the old DE at the bottom tends to slough off when the tank is drained.

Thanks,

Jim R.
