6 years ago we had the light niche (SS) in our fiberglass pool replaced. This year I noticed we had a leak and rust colored dot on the bottom of the pool. It looks like our light niche (SS) (pentair 78232400) bond lug has corroded. What might cause this?

If this is the bonding connection inside the niche it is supposed to be covered with a listed potting compound that is supposed to protect the connection from corrosion.
There is a bond lug on the outside of the light niche where the solid #8 bare bond wire goes.
There is also a bonding connection inside the niche where a #8 solid or stranded, insulated bonding jumper can be connected.
When the conduit from the junction box to the light is non-metallic, you install the #8 solid or stranded, insulated wire in the conduit with the pool light cord. This is called a bonding jumper.
Inside the niche, you connect the bonding jumper to the internal connection and the other end connects to the bond/ground lug inside the junction box.
Can you get a picture of inside the niche so that we can see if the internal connection is still usable or completely gone?
Hopefully, the external bond wire is still in place.

James thanks for the response. I cant get a picture right now it back underwater due to recent rain but it looks like the potting failed. The only wire/cable in the niche is the one for the light. Once the we get a clear day I wll get a picute.
Here is a picture... I removed the potting material. I think it was butyl tape. You can still see it on the light cable. Will AB-1000 work on a metal niche?
