We just set up our 16’ x 48” above ground pool. I have the saltwater generator hooked up...I added the amount of pool salt indicated for my 5,061 gallon pool. My chlorinater keeps throwing the “high salt” code after running for a day, and my pool smells like fish ? ? my cheapy test strips read that my free chlorine and ph levels are good but my alkalinity is high...I also have what I believe to be pollen floating in my pool! Water is clear and blue (well was)...help!!!

The left column is the CYA/stabilizer level. You will need to test the water to find out what the stabilizer level is currently in your pool. Depending on what the active ingredient was in the shock you used, you may have a small amount of stabilizer in the pool. We recommend that you get a good FAS/DPD test kit such as a TF 100 or a Taylor K2006 so that you can do your own testing.

For today I would recommend ordering a test kit, adding about 1/2 gallon of liquid chlorine from the pool aisle to your pool, keep the pump running 24/7 and use a pool net to skim off the pollen. Read through ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry for more information about the terminology we use and what the chemicals do. Feel free to ask all the questions you need, we are here to help!

Yes you can add stabilizer now you are shooting for about 30ppm for now which means based on your pool size you need about 1.75 lbs of stabilizer granules.

Typically stabilizer will come in 4lbs tubs so you only need about half a tub for now.

Update: (I don’t have my rest kit yet so I am using the strips and the Clorox 2 way test)
fc: .5
ph: 8
pool
is looking a lot better, pretty clear. Just need to vacuum some more. My swg is on boost this morning since it finally decided to not throw a high salt error. Any advice? Should I add more chlorine this a.m. or just let the swg do its thing?

I don’t have the financial ability to order the kit right now...as soon as I get the extra $$ I will be ordering it. I added 2lbs of cya yesterday along with the gallon of chlorine...what is the best way to bring down ph? And should I add another gallon of chlorine? Or will the boost on the swg do the job?
