New to trouble free pool

Yep, you are correct. Wow. Okay, starting adding baking soda. For now, add about 40 ppm as noted above and test again in about 30-60 min. You need to get the TA to at least 50 and the pH "should" start to respond and come back up to the 7.2 range. If after getting the TA to 50 the pH doesn't respond, you can increase the TA to 60, then 70 if needed.
Again, thanks. I better go buy that other 10.8 pound bag of baking soda, looks like I might need it based on the test results, your reply and the Pool Math calculator. Feels like it’s getting close..

Hello. I have been testing the TA and PH today my results as of a few minutes ago or as follows.
FC- 8.5 ppm
CC- 0.0
TA- 80( it went fro 60 to 70 and now reads 80)
CYA- 50
PH- just started to turn a little finally at the TA of 80, please see photo to see if you agree it is moving up. Should I keep bringing the TA up by 10’s until the ph is in the 7.2 or 7.4 range? Thank you TFP

MUCH better! :goodjob: Now leave it alone for a day or two. Just monitor those two troublemakers (pH and TA) to see how they stabilize. Good job.

Thank you. Will do.

Does anyone have a tried and tested stain removal method? I saw a YouTube video where a pool owner took the rest of the bottle of vitamin C, filled up a white sock, tied it to the pool brush and brushed the stains away. UGH! Obviously, I will do whatever manual labor is required to get this pool looking and functioning properly. I’m just wondering if there are any other options besides the one mentioned above.
I will always appreciate the support consideration, time and guidance I’ve received from TFP And all who have helped us. A donation is definitely in order.
Thank you.

I would get that ladder out so you can replace those plastic treads. They get dangerous as they age as they get brittle and can break and cut someone getting out of the pool. If the bolts are still out, take a rubber mallet and hit them at the bends upwards. Work each one a bit at a time. I have to do this every year with my railing as it has to be removed for the safety cover to be installed. You can replace the ladder treads with some like this. Just measure your existing ones and get some metal ones the same length. Good luck with the staining! I only get minor stains so I just swim around the pool with vitamin c in a sock. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FMZXP7...o_cp_apin_dp_W5JX6YYA3C6DY7TMV3NB&starsLeft=1

Thank you all for everything. We have been away for a week but all is well with our rejuvenated pool. Still stained but love being able to swim in it. PH is above 7.8 around 8 or so. TFP pool math directs me to add 3.4 oz of dry acid (muriatic acid)to get to a 7.6 PH level. Can I get that at Walmart like the liquid chlorine and stabilizer? When I get it, is there a preferred way to add it to the pool? Again, I’ve learned so much and am still learning.
Thank you

Dry acid and muriatic acid are not the same thing. Make sure you have the correct one selected in Pool Math. You want to use muriatic which is a liquid. I don't think Walmart carries it. Home Depot and Lowes do as well as hardware stores usually. It's also one of the few things that isn't outrageously expensive at pool stores. Anything near 30% is full strength. If it is labeled Green or low odor it is probably half strength or less. That is ok to use but you will need twice as much of it.

Hold it just above the water and pour it slowly in front of a working return.
