New swamp (hopefully pool again) owner

It will be interesting to see how your pool does now and after you get the pipe cleaned up. Does that stuff smell?

I wonder if a plumper snake would be useful for this? Oh and a bottle brush on the end of long rod to help clean it up.

Hmm clearly the bulk of this was put there on purpose because it has a bolt attaching what looks like two large fender washers to the top. While I am not at this point detecting any, I kinda wonder if they are (were) large magnets that were supposed to trap iron particles in the water. My Saturn had one in the transmission filter for the break in period, so it makes me wonder.

I think Marian is onto something--------it was to help hold the grate on I bet. Of course it started rusting over time and became that "thing".

Time to do some diving to see what is what down there. Are the holes threaded or stripped?

Well I can say I am not a fan of some of the "not in a box" wire nut splices I have found, but that was on some ceiling fans so not with the pool. We have some aluminum wiring and a Zinsco electrical panel box we are getting quotes for mitigation too.

As for the screws I do see a lip down there that the cover was on, but I cant see anything that looks like a screw hole at this point, so the weight option is still a possibility.

PS, it is supposed to be up to 86 on Thursday so I am thinking I will get one of these little bags that we bought before a trip to Mexico a few years back that let you take video with your cell phone underwater. Got some great footage snorkeling at XelHa and swimming with whale sharks with that.

Last I saw it was 72°. That was enough that with a quick brrrr moment plunging below I was fine afterwards. Still have the solar blanket on so hopefully it will be up a couple more degrees by then.

We are debating between a heat pump or something like this Smartpool SunHeater® 2 -2 'x 20' (80 sq. ft.) Complete Solar Heating System (S425P) - Featured 2030 : Smartpool

The nice thing about the solar heater would be cheaper initial and running costs, the nice thing about the heat pump would be cooling when we need it, although if you run the solar while it is cooler out than the water it should cool the water some (just no where near what a heat pump would do)

Couldn't get the underwater video, the bag had a split. I did figure out how to work the zoom on my phone camera though so got some pics that were a bit tighter shots.

There are screw holes, couldn't quite tell if one was plugged up or not. I think I measured them at 6.5 inches apart, but couldn't tell. Apparently I am fairly buoyant these days.
