Hey everyone, new here. I replaced a burned up pump, everything inside practically melted. I made sure to take photos and put everything back however now when I go to flip the breaker back on it just trips. I can not for the life of me figure out why.

before was a sq1102 and i have switched it to a motor Leslie’s sold me -j-p150. Same HP and it appears to allhave the same wiring. The cholorinator and timer wiring didn’t Change. It did appear one of the wires running from the timer to the pump was bare so I changed it out and reran it and it is still tripping.

Driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated.

00,

I assume some of the pics are new and some are old, so that is confusing.. Please post just the new pics showing how the wires are right now.

Tell me which conduit in the timer runs to the pump.

I can't match colors going into your conduit with the colors coming into the pump...

I assume you are wiring for 240 volts.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I have attached the wiring which is all current. The only thing different is the black wire running to the ground. It is certain it is ground, lebeled, had to switch out the bad wire.

now I am going to test the breaker in a bit to see if it is bad. It is a 20 amp breaker and I’m reading This needs to have a 15 amp. I don’t see this should be tripping though.

00,

If this were my pool I would do the following..

1. Remove in the red and yellow wires from the line side the timer... Turn on the breaker and see if it still pops or not. If not, then measure to ensure you have 240 volts between the two wires.

2. Remove the wiring from the pump.. Reconnect the red and yellow wires to the line side of the timer.. Turn on the breaker and see ff it pops.. If not, measure the 240 volts input voltage to the pump. (Pump still disconnected.)

3. Reconnect the wires to the pump.. Turn on the breaker.. If the breaker still pops, the breaker or the pump is bad.. I would replace the breaker, just to make sure..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Similar to what Jim said, I would run wire direct from the breaker to the pump. This will eliminate the timer from the circuit. If it still fails, then you either have a bad breaker or a bad pump.

00,

No idea...

The pump shuts off. but the breaker is not popping. and the pump is still getting power.. Right??

When the pump shuts off, have you actually measured the 240 volts out of the timer or at the pump itself??

Did we get the whole story? Did you by chance connect the new pump with it set to 120 volts instead of 240, even for just a few seconds? It would not be the first time that has ever happened... :)

Thanks,

Jim R.
