I have variable speed pump, new pool. How many hours do I need to run at what time of the day and at what speed? I'm using cool misters to cool the water so would like to run at night. I live in Texas and it's super hot right now!

Every pool and situation varies. Take a look at our Pool School - Determine Pump Run Time page. In short, run enough to mix chemicals, keep the surface skimmed, and vacuum. Other than that it's totally up to you based on how the water looks. Time of day really doesn't matter, although some believe at low light/sun times you get better cooling from the misting. VSPs sometimes need to ramp-up once or twice a day to purge bubbles that may get trapped in the pump basket.

You could start at around 12 hours on low speed and see how it goes for a week. If it's real sparkly, reduce by an hour for the next week. If still sparkly, reduce again, repeat, until you notice that it's not as sparkly as you'd like, then go back up by an hour.
As far as time of day, I like my pump to run when I want the pool skimmed and looking its best. So it's just a personal decision.
