Hi,
I am new to running a pool and have been reading a lot and the pool school articles here, this is a bit of a lengthy post so please bare with me.
My levels which are rough as good testing kits seem to be impossible to get in Turkey are based from a 6 in 1 test strip, the only way I can seem to measure anything other than just low levels 0.1-3ppm Free Chlorine and pH. pH is measured via a pH 7 calibrated pH meter
Pool size is approx 90m3, Roughly 24,000 US Gallons
I've been working on balancing the pool based on the Pool School instructions and have the current levels.
Cyanuric Acid - 5-6 ppm approx (based on adding 2 doses of Dichlor to raise the Clorine levels to 3ppm each time, levels barely showing on test strips, graduation is 0, 10, 40, 80)
Free Chlorine - 3ppm
Combined Chorline - 0 ppm
Hardness approx 350ppm
Alkalinity - 80-100ppm
pH - 7.4
First off I am having to raise the CYA levels by using Dichlor for about 10-12 days to bring the CYA levels up to about 30 before switching to liquid chlorine as pure cyanuric acid cannot be bought here.
1. Are there any major problems with this approach, I know I need CYA but the local trend doesn't seem to be to use it?
Due to the current virus restrictions getting a test kit imported is impossible for the time being the only options I have for getting good readings are either;
Pool Lab 1.0
Lamotte Color Pro 11
I can get the refils for the Pool Lab but can't find refills for the Lamotte anyhere which make me reluctant to purchase that one. A possibility is that I can use test strips for rough numbers and periodically get better readings from the Lamotte the Pool Lab I would be able to use constantly.
2. Does anyone have any experience with Either Tester?
3. Would you trust Colormetric testers?
I have no idea when the pool filter was last deep cleaned but wouuld have to clean it in place as it is in a machine room next to the pool below the level of the pool, very large and behind pipes so impossible to remove.
4. Does anyone have any advice on cleaning this in place?
I'm not overly worried about getting water in the room, it got a large amount when a local company replaced the pump and filter cover which I have got to less than an inch so restarting the water removeal process wouldn't be an issue and I have a submersible pump.
Pool turnover is under 4 hours with the pump running for 16 hours per day.
Vacuuming is being done by a Dolphin S200 with multi-level filters, rough insert and ultra-fine filters, which is how they come over here.
Any answers to questions or additional advice based on the info I have given would be welcome.
Thanks very much for the advise already on the site and forums
