New pool, new owner, always having issues...

FC 8.5
CC .5 or less
CYA 40

FYI I'm running my heater and SWG throughout the day, just not at night for the OCLT. Which means my loss is greater than 4ppm today. Really starting to wonder if something is up with the SWG. Anyway bumping it up to 16 FC.

SWG are not good at raising FC. I wouldn't worry about the SWG until after SLAM. Turn it off during SLAM

guess I should wash out the cartridges again... Frustrating!
Clean your filters. Note pressure (put it in pool math under maintenance item). When pressure rises 25%, clean the cartridges again. You may be cleaning often during SLAM.

The most important aspect of the SLAM is to maintain FC level throughout. Test and dose a minimum of every couple hours and maintain FC 16.

You may want to consider getting refills of the FAS/DPD reagents. I know they go fast.

Ok, did a mid-day measure. 9.5 FC, added more.

So, from you experts is this normal, to have no visible signs of algae, nothing left to clean (although I can do the cartridges again), and to be losing 6-7ppm+/- daily?

to have no visible signs of algae,
The sign of invisible algae is failing the OCLT.

Maintain a FC at or near SLAM FC level. You can let the FC drop below SLAM FC level for swim times then raise it up.

Eventually you will break the back of the algae replication and you will see your FC demand drop. There can be a long tail depending on your pools environment.

Ok, so the SLAM instructions says "Loss of 1.0 ppm of FC overnight" you should SLAM.

It also says you should stop when "your overnight chlorine loss test shows 1.0 ppm of loss or less".

So which is it, do I stop or continue? (CC is .5)
