Well there's nothing left to clean and do I guess I just wait until morning to see if the level drops again.

+1 I don't use them either. I find it ironic that to prolong filter cleanings I have to frequently change skimmer socks instead. Less work somehow makes more work.

Sure they'll argue that changing skimmer socks takes less time than cleaning the filter, but add up all the skimmer sock changes and it's probably even.

I'm doing it because the debris is small enough that it's getting through to the filter itself, past the skimmer, past the basket. Just trying to extend the life of the cartridges.

Yeah. Slam FC is 40% of the CYA level. More CYA = more FC needed


Testing under 30 is sketchy so it's just 10 FC with low CYA.

You can use hairnets in the skimmer basket.
Look for spun polypropylene.
They are disposable and easily changed - less time than cleaning the skimmer basket.

Earlier you reported a CYA level of 35. Round up to 40. If you're Slamming maintain 16 ppm.

I did the test again and it was 30. I think the 35-40 was a bad reading or just did it wrong.

Ok. If it were my pool I would run a bit hot to make up for any deviation and test results. It won't take much more chlorine to get you up to 16 ppm, or to maintain that level.

Just my 2 cents.
